Smoke, spice,

Open-flame grilling, hand-toasted masalas, and the Cape Malay table — done the way our families taught us, in the neighbourhood that taught them.
The Beginning, 2026
We opened the doors
in June 2026.
Bo-Kaap Grill was founded with a simple vision: to create a space that celebrates the rich heritage, flavours, and hospitality of the Bo-Kaap. Inspired by South African and Cape Malay culture, we offer a fully halal dining experience where tradition meets modern dining.
From carefully selected ingredients and authentic preparation to the warm, welcoming atmosphere, every part of Bo-Kaap Grill is designed to honour community, culture, and the joy of sharing great food around a table.

The Space
Step inside Bo Kaap Grill.
Bo-Kaap Grill started as an idea — a vision to create more than just a restaurant. The goal was to build a space that feels authentic to the area, celebrates the rich heritage of the Bo-Kaap, and brings people together through food, culture, and hospitality. From the beginning, the intention was to offer something different: a fully halal dining experience rooted in the traditions, flavours, and values that have shaped the Bo-Kaap community for generations.
Inspired by South African and Cape Malay culture, Bo-Kaap Grill pays tribute to the stories, recipes, and traditions passed down through families. Every dish reflects a blend of heritage and modern dining, creating an experience that feels both familiar and memorable. Whether it's a family gathering, a casual lunch, a special celebration, or a visitor's first taste of Cape Malay cuisine, the restaurant aims to create moments worth sharing.
Today, the kitchen operates on a simple philosophy: quality ingredients, authentic preparation, and consistency. Spices are carefully selected and toasted to unlock their full flavour, meats are prepared over hardwood for depth and character, layered tastes. Every plate is prepared with attention to detail, ensuring that tradition and quality are present in every bite.
Beyond the food, hospitality remains at the heart of everything Bo-Kaap Grill does. Guests are welcomed as part of the experience, not just customers passing through. The atmosphere is designed to reflect the warmth, generosity, and sense of community that the Bo-Kaap is known for.
As the restaurant continues to grow, its purpose remains unchanged: to honour the culture that inspired it, showcase the flavours that define it, and provide a space where locals and visitors alike can experience the best of South African and Cape Malay hospitality. Bo-Kaap Grill is more than a place to eat — it is a celebration of heritage, community, and the stories shared around a table.
The four pillars of our kitchen
Open Flame Tradition
Every cut of meat passes over local South African hardwood coals. No shortcuts, no gas — just smoke, time, and craft.
Hand-Toasted Spices
Our masalas are toasted and ground in-house each morning. The kitchen smells like cardamom, cumin, and clove by sunrise.
